If you wish to direct a domain address that you have to some other domain name or subdomain, the best way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being redirected loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it's pointed to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be forwarded to the Internet site that you've created, but it will also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because this kind of a record created for the main domain name renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which we offer with each and every Linux hosting, allows you to create CNAME records for any domain name or subdomain hosted in the account with several mouse clicks. If you are not certain how to go about it, you can check out the video tutorial that is available in the Control Panel, read the detailed Help article on the subject, or you can simply contact us and we can help you 24/7, although it is not likely you'll experience any problems as all it takes to create a new CNAME record is to choose a domain/subdomain, enter the hostname that you're redirecting to, and save the change. The new record is going to be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records allows you to have better control of your domain names and website content and our system is simple and intuitive enough to allow individuals with no previous experience to create such records easily.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing DNS records usually appears to be a challenging task to those with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every semi-dedicated hosting which we offer, is extremely easy to use. If you want to set up a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you need to do will be to select the domain or subdomain that you need, select the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then type in the value i.e. the domain address or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is quite easy and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the Control Panel. Within the hour the new record is going to be fully active and within several hours it will propagate around the world. If you're not sure what you should do, we have prepared an in depth help article and a short video tutorial regarding how to go about creating a CNAME record and they're both located in that very same section of Hepsia. Naturally, you can also get in touch with us for assistance at any moment.
